Partnership and Business Development

Overview of the Department

The Partnership and Business Development department has two sub-units, Partnerships and collaborations, and business development. The mandate of the department includes but is not limited to coordinating the development of effective partnership arrangements for generating, upscaling adoption and/or commercialization of Technologies, Innovations, and Management Practises (TIMPs) and, negotiating business consultancies and contracts with other organizations aimed at arriving at a signed memorandum of understanding.

Through strategic partnerships and collaborations, effective resource mobilization and implementation of projects aimed at addressing pressing agricultural needs have let to the generation of appropriate TIMPs by the organization. This has allowed the involved scientists to leverage expertise, and resources including facilities and data management capacity within the partnership. Two-way educational and capacity-building partnerships have enabled KALRO scientists to gain insights on new agricultural methods, technologies and practices from exchange programs, while KALRO has also hosted numerous international researchers as part of similar initiatives. KALRO scientists have further benefited from academic scholarships.

Collaborations and partnerships have been central in KALRO achieving its objective of catalyzing technology transfer and adoption of the research outputs. Various partners have been crucial in upscaling the adoption of the TIMPs and their commercialization. This has particularly contributed to increased farmers’ access to improved agricultural value chain-based technologies that boosts productivity, enhance market opportunities, and promote environmental sustainability.
